What is a White Card?

A White Card is evidence that you have completed general construction induction training. It is a license required to work in the construction industry.

How do I get a White Card?

You will be issued with a White Card after completing general construction induction training with a registered training organisation (RTO). The course content is defined by the accredited unit of competency CPCCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry. QLD White Cards are issued the RTOs on behalf of WorkSafe QLD.

Can I get a White Card online in QLD?

No, as of 2024, you must complete the training in a classroom (face to face delivery). You can apply for an exemption if you reside 100km or more from the nearest RTO delivering the White Card course. Note: The course used to be available online to anyone prior to February 2019, which means that there is a lot of outdated information online.

Who needs a White Card?

Anyone required to enter a construction site.

How long is a White Card QLD valid for?

QLD White Cards do not have an expiry date and do not expire unless you haven't carried out construction work for over continuous 2 years.

Where can I get a White Card in Brisbane?

There are many RTOs delivering construction induction training in Brisbane. To pick a good RTO you want to consider location, price, reviews and parking situation (can be very expensive in the CBD).

Are White Cards nationally recognised?

Yes, all White Cards are nationally recognised and can be used to work anywhere in Australia.

What is the minimum age to get a White Card in Queensland?

There is no minimum age to obtain a QLD White Card.

There is a common misconception that you must be at least 14 years of age to obtain a White Card in Queensland. This is only the case in NSW (SafeWork NSW requirement) and does not apply to Queensland.

Some RTOs have self-imposed age restrictions to deliver training, but WorkSafe QLD does not specify an age restriction.

What identification must I bring?

You must bring 3 forms of identification to be issued a White Card QLD, with at least one showing your photo. You can view the full list of ID documents here.

Do I need a USI to complete the White Card training?

Yes, CPCCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry is an accredited unit of competency and you will need a Unique Student Identifier (USI) to complete the training.

What level of English is required for the White Card course?

You must have a basic English language, literacy and numeracy level to successfully complete the White Card course. You are required to understand and answer written as well as verbal questions.
